Rashmi Shukla becomes first Woman DGP of Maharashtra
The Maharashtra government has appointed IPS officer Rashmi Shukla from the 1988 batch as the new Director General of Police (DGP). With this, she becomes the first woman DGP of Maharashtra.
Rashmi Shukla has assumed this role following the retirement of her batchmate Rajnish Seth.
IPS officer Rashmi has previously served in crucial roles such as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Additional Director General (ADG) at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Hyderabad.
Her husband, IPS officer Uday Shankar, passed away in 2018.

IPS Rashmi Shukla is an officer from the 1988 batch. She was born on August 15, 1965, in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
- She completed her early education at St. Xavier’s School in Mumbai and later graduated from the renowned Elphinstone College.
- Rashmi Shukla earned her master’s degree from the University of Mumbai.
Rashmi Shukla cracked the Civil Services exam in 1988
Having prepared for the UPSC Civil Services examination alongside her college studies, Rashmi Shukla cracked the Civil Services exam in 1988, securing her selection into the Indian Police Service (IPS).
- After becoming an IPS officer, she was allotted to the Maharashtra cadre.

She has held various positions in the Maharashtra Police, including Superintendent of Police (SP) in rural districts such as Aurangabad, Nashik, Satara, and Pune.
In addition to these roles, she has also been appointed as an Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Mumbai. She has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Crime Branch in Nagpur and Pune cities.

- In September 2023, the Bombay High Court dismissed two FIRs filed against Shukla in this regard. IPS Rashmi Shukla is considered to be close to the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis.
