Rahul Singh becomes the New Chairman of CBSE
The Central Government appointed senior IAS officer Rahul Singh as the Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on March 13, 2024. Rahul Singh will take over from Nidhi Chiber, who has recently been appointed as an advisor in NITI Aayog.
The Cabinet committee approved Rahul Singh’s appointment:
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) sanctioned Rahul Singh’s appointment as the Chairman of CBSE.
- Rahul Singh is a 1996 batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Bihar cadre.
- Currently, he holds the position of Under Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet also approved appointments to several other positions, including the following:
(i) AP Das Joshi, a 1994 batch IAS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has been appointed as the additional secretary of DoPT, succeeding Rahul Singh.
(ii) Rajiv Kumar Mittal, currently serving as Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Department of Atomic Energy, has been appointed as the Director General of National Mission for Clean Ganga under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
(iii) Gyanesh Bharti has been appointed as Under Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development, while Deepak Narayan has been appointed as Under Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
About the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE):
CBSE is a prominent board of school education in India, with numerous private schools both within the country and abroad being affiliated with it.
Objective: Its main objectives include catering to the educational needs of children whose parents are Central Government employees and benefiting educational institutions more effectively.
CBSE oversees various types of educational institutions, including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Government Schools, Independent Schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, and Central Tibetan Schools.
