Nina Singh becomes first Woman Chief of CISF

For the first time in the history of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), a woman has been appointed as its Director General. The central government on December 28 announced the appointment of Nina Singh as the first female Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Nina Singh, a 1989-batch IPS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, previously holding the position of Special DG of CISF, has achieved the historic milestone of being the first woman to ascend to the role of Director General in the central force. She joined CISF in 2021 and will continue to lead until her retirement on July 31 next year.

Additionally, she holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.

The first woman DGP of Rajasthan

Notably, she made history by becoming the first woman to attain the highest police position in Rajasthan, where only six officers hold the Director General rank in the state police force.

In the year 2000, serving as the member secretary for the State Women’s Commission, she initiated an outreach program facilitating commission members to travel to various districts for hearings addressing issues faced by distressed women.

Nina Singh’s academic contributions include co-authoring two research papers alongside Nobel laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo.

  • In 2005-2006, she collaborated on a project for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology aimed at enhancing the approachability of police stations.

She has also rendered her services in the CBI

During her tenure as the Joint Director of CBI from 2013 to 2018, she supervised high-profile cases, including the Sheena Bora murder case and the Jiah Khan suicide case.

Honored with the Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal

In recognition of her professional excellence, she was honored with the Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal in 2020.
