Justice Ritu Bahri becomes first woman Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court
Justice Ritu Bahri made history as she became first female Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court on February 3. The oath of office was administered by Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh, the Governor of Uttarakhand.
Notably, she is only the second woman to hold this esteemed position among the 25 high courts across the nation. Previously, in the preceding year, Sunita Aggarwal, a judge of the Allahabad High Court, was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.

- On November 2, 2023, the Supreme Court Collegium endorsed her appointment as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.
Served as a judge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court
Before assuming her role as the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand, Justice Bahri held the position of a judge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court since 2010.
Education
She received her schooling in Chandigarh and obtained her law degree from Punjab University, commencing her legal career in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Justice Bahri focused her practice on civil, constitutional, taxation, labor, and service-related issues.

- It was established on November 9, 2000, after the state of Uttarakhand was carved out of the northern part of Uttar Pradesh.
