Jasprit Bumrah becomes the first bowler in cricket history to be ranked No. 1 in all three formats

Jasprit Bumrah makes history as first bowler to top Test, ODI, and T20 rankings

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has attained the top position in the latest ICC Men’s Test Bowler rankings for the first time, as confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on February 7.

Bumrah’s achievement marks a significant milestone in cricket history, as he becomes the first bowler ever to hold the number one ranking in all three formats of the game. Despite currently standing at 6th place in the One Day International (ODI) rankings and 89th in the Twenty20 (T20) rankings, Bumrah’s dominance in Test cricket is unparalleled.

Bumrah outstanding performance in the second Test against England

His ascent to the summit of the Test bowling rankings follows an outstanding performance in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, where he claimed remarkable match figures of 9/91, contributing significantly to India’s series-equalling 106-run victory.

The ICC acknowledged Bumrah’s exceptional achievement in a statement, affirming his status as the premier fast bowler in the world.

Latest Test rankings update

In the latest Test rankings update, Bumrah surged three places to claim the top spot, surpassing his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin. Meanwhile, Ashwin, who also played a crucial role in the Visakhapatnam Test with three wickets, dropped to third place, trailing behind Bumrah and South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada.

Bumrah Joins Elite Company with Test Bowling Triumph

According to data from the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jasprit Bumrah has become only the fourth player from India, and notably the first fast bowler, to claim the top spot in the bowling charts.

  • Prior to him, Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Bishan Bedi were the sole representatives from India to achieve this distinction.

Analyzing the statistics, Bumrah’s recent six-wicket haul marks his third-best performance in Test cricket and notably his first in India. This feat boosts Bumrah’s tally to 155 Test wickets. Previously, his standout performances included figures of 6/27 against West Indies in 2019 and 6/33 against Australia in 2018.

Furthermore, Bumrah’s ascent to 150 Test wickets places him as the second-fastest Asian bowler to achieve this milestone, trailing behind Pakistan’s former pace sensation, Waqar Younis, who accomplished the feat in just 27 Test matches.

Bumrah reached this landmark in 34 Tests, solidifying his stature as one of the premier fast bowlers in the world.
