India observes Army Day every year on January 15 to honor the sacrifices made by its troops for the nation.

The significance of this day is rooted in the year 1949 when Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa assumed the role of the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of Independent India, succeeding General FRR Bucher, the last British-serving chief of the Indian Army.

Change in Tradition: 76th Army Day Parade Shifts from Delhi to Lucknow for the Second Consecutive Year

Since 1949 until 2022, the Army Day parade has traditionally been held at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment.

• During this event, the Chief of Army Staff reviews the marching contingents, which also participate in the annual Republic Day Parade.

On January 15, the city of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh hosted a grand parade in celebration of the 76th Army Day of the Indian Army.

• This marks the second consecutive year that the Army Day parade has been shifted from Delhi. In the previous year, the parade took place at the Parade Ground of the MED & Centre in Bengaluru.

“AI will judge ‘Best Marching Contingent this year”

The Army Day parade this year will be unique as it incorporates Artificial Intelligence for the first time to determine the ‘Best Marching Contingent,’ announced Major General Salil Seth.

This marks the inaugural use of Artificial Intelligence in identifying the top-performing marching contingent.
