On 9th March, India secured their third ICC Champions Trophy title, defeating New Zealand by 4 wickets in the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan hosted the tournament for the first time in 29 years, following the 1996 ODI World Cup. Unfortunately, the hosts failed to secure a single victory in the event:

  • 1998 & 2000: Known as ICC KnockOut.
  • 2002 onwards: Renamed ICC Champions Trophy.
  • Held every two years until 2009.
  • 2008 edition was cancelled and moved to 2009 in South Africa.
