Today, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued the rules of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), thereby clearing the path for the law’s enforcement nationwide. The decision was taken before the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) preceding the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
According to Home Minister Amit Shah, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is intended solely to grant citizenship to individuals who have faced persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and have come to India seeking refuge. He emphasized that it is not aimed at revoking anyone’s Indian citizenship.
The issuance of the rules notification is expected to facilitate migrants from neighboring countries in acquiring citizenship in India.
