Asif Ali Zardari Sworn in as 14th President of Pakistan

Asif Ali Zardari assumed the role of Pakistan’s 14th President after securing a decisive win in the presidential election. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the Presidential Palace.

Zardari took over from Dr. Arif Alvi, who had extended his tenure by five months beyond his initial five-year term ending in September of the previous year.

With this win, Zardari’s reelection to the presidency signifies his second term in office, establishing him as the first civilian in Pakistan’s history to hold the position twice.

Note:

  • Before, he was president from 2008 to 2013, making him one of only four presidents to finish a full five-year term after being elected by the people.
  • Since August 2018, he’s also been a member of Pakistan’s National Assembly.

Thanks
