Ex-Ayutthaya: First India-Thailand Naval Exercise has significance with Ayodhya

The inaugural bilateral maritime drill involving the Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy is titled ‘Ex-Ayutthaya,’ signifying the importance of two ancient cities—Ayodhya in India and Ayutthaya in Thailand. These cities share deep cultural connections and historical stories that span numerous centuries.

The maiden edition of ‘Ex-Ayutthaya,’ meaning ‘the invincible one’ or ‘undefeatable,’ took place from December 20-23, 2023.

  • The exercise featured the participation of indigenously constructed Indian naval vessels Kulish and IN-LCU 56. Representing the Royal Thai Navy was His Thai Majesty’s Ship (HTMS) Prachuap Khiri Khan.

These exercises represent a strategic advancement in fostering greater operational synergy and complexity, aligning with India’s SAGAR vision, which stands for Security and Growth for All in the Region.
