Gabriel Attal has become France’s youngest-ever prime minister, making history as the country’s first openly gay individual to hold the position. The appointment was officially disclosed by French President Emmanuel Macron’s office in a statement released on 9th January 2024.
Gabriel Attal succeeds Elisabeth Borne
Following recent political turmoil over an immigration law, Gabriel has taken over from Elisabeth Borne, who resigned on 08th January. The new immigration law grants increased authority to the French government for the deportation of foreigners.
Elisabeth Borne served in office for less than two years and resigned in anticipation of a widely expected cabinet reshuffle.

In recent opinion polls, one of the country’s most popular politicians, Gabriel Attal, has carved out his identity as a discerning minister working with ease in both radio shows and parliament.
He will be the youngest prime minister in France and the first openly gay individual to hold the position.
