Indian Naval Ship Imphal inducted into Indian Navy

The Indian Navy officially commissioned its indigenous stealth guided missile destroyer, named INS Imphal, in a ceremony held in Mumbai on December 26. The event was graced by the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Notably, INS Imphal is the first warship to be named after a city in the Northeast, emphasizing the strategic significance of the region for national security and prosperity.

Following a thorough and extensive trial program conducted both in the harbor and at sea, INS Imphal was handed over to the Indian Navy on October 20 this year.

About INS Imphal

INS Imphal is constructed by Mazgaon Dock Limited, the vessel showcases an impressive indigenous component of approximately 75 percent.

  • It is outfitted with BrahMos surface-to-surface missiles, medium-range surface-to-air missiles, indigenous anti-submarine rocket launchers, and a 76mm super rapid gun mount.

As part of Project 15B (Visakhapatnam class), INS Imphal boasts a length of 163 meters and a displacement of 7,400 tons, establishing itself as a formidable naval asset.

The ship is equipped with state-of-the-art weapons, advanced sensors, and surveillance radar, solidifying its status as one of India’s most powerful warships.
