Rahul Dravid Declines Extra Bonus of Rs 2.5 Crore, Winning Hearts Again

In a remarkable display of humility and team spirit, former India head coach Rahul Dravid has declined an additional bonus of Rs 2.5 crore from the Rs 125 crore prize money announced by the BCCI.

The BCCI announced the prize money to reward the team for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and the coaching staff led by Dravid, India triumphed over South Africa in the final to become T20 World Champions.

This T20 World Cup marked Dravid’s final assignment as the head coach of the men’s senior cricket team. He will be succeeded by Gautam Gambhir.

Dravid, who was set to receive Rs 5 crore, requested to take only Rs 2.5 crore, equal to the amount given to his support staff members—batting coach Vikram Rathore, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip.

“Rahul wanted the same bonus money as the rest of his support staff. We respect his sentiments,” a BCCI source told Hindustan Times.

This isn’t the first time Dravid has demonstrated such generosity. After guiding the Indian Under-19 team to victory in the 2018 World Cup, Dravid, who initially received Rs 50 lakh, insisted on equal rewards for all coaching staff. Consequently, each member, including Dravid, received Rs 25 lakh.
