PM Narendra Modi tenders resignation along with Council of Ministers at Rashtrapati Bhavan
In a significant political development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, marking the end of the current government’s term as the 17th Lok Sabha approaches its conclusion on June 16.
The President has accepted the resignation and requested PM Modi and his Council of Ministers to continue in their roles until the new government takes charge.
Earlier in the day, the Union cabinet recommended the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha.
Although the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) holds a comfortable lead with 292 seats above the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with 240 seats, has failed to reach the threshold for the first time since 2014.
- As a result, it now heavily relies on its coalition partners for the process of government formation.
The Congress, part of the opposition INDIA alliance, has made gains compared to the previous elections, indicating a shift in political dynamics. As negotiations and discussions for the formation of the new government unfold, the nation awaits the outcome that will shape the course of governance for the coming years.
