Election Commission Orders Removal of Home Secretaries in Six States Ahead of Polls

The Election Commission of India has taken decisive action by issuing removal orders for key officials in various states, including home secretaries and other top bureaucrats. In a significant development, the Election Commission has directed the removal of home secretaries in six states: Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. These officials, responsible for overseeing their respective Chief Minister’s Offices, are being replaced to maintain the impartiality and effectiveness of the electoral process.

The orders also extend to other crucial positions, including the Secretary of the General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh.

Notably, the list encompasses high-ranking officials such as BrihanMumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, as well as Additional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners.

With the Lok Sabha polls scheduled in seven phases from April 19, and results slated for June 4, the Election Commission’s proactive measures are geared towards enforcing the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
