India Gears Up for Phase 1 of Lok Sabha Elections 2024: A Celebration of Democracy

As the world’s largest democracy, India is all set to embark on the monumental task of conducting its Lok Sabha for the year 2024. Tomorrow, on the 19th of April, the nation will witness the commencement of Phase-I of this grand electoral process, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and crucial period for the country.

A Massive Endeavour

 

Phase-I of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will see polling take place for 102 Parliamentary Constituencies across 21 States and Union Territories.

  • This phase also includes elections for 92 Assembly Constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, making it a significant event with the highest number of parliamentary constituencies among all phases.

With 1.87 lakh polling stations established to cater to over 16.63 crore voters, the logistical preparations for Phase-I are nothing short of extraordinary.

  • Over 18 lakh polling officials will be on duty, ensuring that the voting process is smooth, transparent, and conducted in accordance with the democratic principles that India holds dear.

Phase 1 Voting Details: Key States and Seats Up for Election

Vote-In-India

In the first phase, voting will be completed on April 19 in two states: Tamil Nadu, which has 39 seats, and Uttarakhand, which has 5 seats.

Additionally, this phase includes the following parliamentary seats across various states and union territories:

  • Rajasthan: 12 seats
  • Uttar Pradesh: 8 seats
  • Madhya Pradesh: 6 seats
  • Assam: 5 seats
  • Maharashtra: 5 seats
  • Bihar: 4 seats
  • West Bengal: 3 seats
  • Arunachal Pradesh: 2 seats
  • Manipur: 2 seats
  • Meghalaya: 2 seats
  • Chhattisgarh: 1 seat
  • Mizoram:1 seat
  • Nagaland: 1 seat
  • Sikkim: 1 seat
  • Tripura: 1 seat
  • Andaman and Nicobar Islands: 1 seat
  • Jammu and Kashmir: 1 seat
  • Lakshadweep: 1 seat
  • Puducherry: 1 seat

Diverse Voter Base

 

The voter base for Phase-I is incredibly diverse, comprising 8.4 crore male, 8.23 crore female, and 11,371 third-gender electors.

  • A noteworthy aspect of this election is the significant participation of young voters, with 35.67 lakh first-time voters registered to cast their votes.
  • Additionally, there are 3.51 crore voters in the age group of 20-29 years, reflecting the active engagement of the youth in shaping the nation’s future.

Candidates and Contenders

 

A total of 1625 candidates are in the fray for Phase-I of the General Elections 2024, with 1491 males and 134 females vying for the parliamentary seats.

  • This diverse array of candidates represents the rich tapestry of India’s political landscape, offering voters a wide range of choices as they exercise their democratic right.

Robust Security and Logistics

 

Ensuring the safety and security of voters, polling officials, and candidates is paramount.

  • To this end, 41 helicopters, 84 special trains, and nearly 1 lakh vehicles have been deployed to ferry polling and security personnel across the constituencies, underscoring the government’s commitment to a fair and peaceful electoral process.

A Call to Action

 

The Election Commission has called upon voters to come out in large numbers and participate actively in this festival of democracy.

  • The voting will commence at 7 AM and conclude at 6 PM, with closure timings varying from one parliamentary constituency to another.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 to be held in Seven Phases Across India

 

The much-anticipated General Elections 2024 in India will be conducted in seven phases, spanning several weeks to ensure a smooth and efficient electoral process. Here’s a breakdown of the election schedule:

  • Phase 1: The first phase of polling will take place on 19th April 2024.
  • Phase 2: The second phase is scheduled for 26th April 2024.
  • Phase 3: The third phase will be conducted on 7th May 2024.
  • Phase 4: The fourth phase is set for 13th May 2024.
  • Phase 5: The fifth phase of polling will be held on 20th May 2024.
  • Phase 6: The sixth phase is scheduled for 25th May 2024.
  • Phase 7: The seventh and final phase of the General Elections 2024 will take place on 1st June 2024.
