The Controversial Question That Sparked Outrage
During a recent episode of India’s Got Latent, Ranveer asked a contestant a highly inappropriate question:
“Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day or join them once to put an end to it?”
His remark shocked both the contestants and fellow judges on the show. Comedian Samay Raina, known for his dark humor, reacted with disbelief, exclaiming, “What the f**?”* Another judge was also heard questioning, “What has happened to Ranveer bhai?”
Social Media Backlash and Legal Complaints
The joke quickly led to widespread criticism on social media. A user on X, Seema Choudhary, wrote, “Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia are poisoning an entire generation. If no action is taken against such perversion, society will pay the price.”
Following the backlash, complaints were filed against Ranveer, Samay Raina, and the show’s organizers. A Congress worker, Nikhil Ruparel, filed a plea in a Mumbai court urging a police investigation under sections 296 (obscene acts) and 352 (intentional insult) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the IT Act.
A BJP functionary also lodged a separate complaint in Mumbai against the show’s creators, judges, and participants.
Maharashtra CM Responds to the Controversy
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the issue, stating, “I have come to know about it but haven’t seen it yet. While freedom of speech exists, it should not infringe upon others’ rights. If societal rules are broken, appropriate action must be taken.”
