Delhi Cafe Owner Puneet Khurana Suicide Case:
Alleges Harassment by Wife and In-Laws in Final Video
A heart-wrenching video recorded by Puneet Khurana, a 40-year-old café owner from Delhi, has surfaced online following his tragic suicide. In the video, Khurana alleged severe harassment by his wife and in-laws, claiming they failed to honor the terms of their mutual divorce agreement.
Khurana, a resident of Model Town in northwest Delhi, was found dead on Tuesday after he reportedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his home.
- Police confirmed that the incident is under investigation, and his family has accused his wife and in-laws of driving him to take this drastic step.
In his 54-minute-long recorded video, a 2.5-minute excerpt has been widely shared on social media. In the clip, Khurana expresses his distress, stating, “I am recording my final statement. I am about to commit suicide because I am extremely tortured by my in-laws and my wife. We had agreed to mutual divorce terms in court, committing to fulfill conditions within 180 days. Ninety days have passed, but my wife and in-laws are now pressuring me with new demands, including an additional ₹10 lakh, which I cannot afford.”
Khurana further added that he couldn’t burden his parents for financial help, as they had already endured enough because of him.
The police have seized Khurana’s mobile phone, containing the video, and other relevant evidence. The device has been sent for forensic examination. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhisham Singh stated that the post-mortem examination has been conducted, and the body was handed over to the family.
ACP Rohit Gupta is leading the investigation, with Khurana’s wife and in-laws likely to be called in for questioning. No immediate response has been received from the accused parties. The police are carefully verifying all allegations made by Khurana’s family as part of the ongoing inquiry.
