1. Minister Manjhi launched new schemes on World MSME Day

  • On World MSME Day 2024, India’s MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi unveiled two significant schemes.
  • First, the Trade Enablement & Marketing initiative, supported by the World Bank’s RAMP program, aims to assist MSMEs in participating in online trade via the Open Network for Digital Commerce platform.
  • Second, the Yashasvini campaign targets women-led enterprises in tier 2 and 3 cities, offering skilling and capacity-building programs for 100,000 women entrepreneurs over the next year.
  • These initiatives are poised to empower and strengthen the MSME sector in India.

 

2. YEIDA and Bebu Project LLP sign agreement to develop a film city in Greater Noida

  • On 27 June 2024, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) signed a concession agreement with Bayview Projects LLP, led by filmmaker Boney Kapoor, and Bhutani Infra.
  • This agreement paves the way for the development of the Noida International Film City near Noida Airport.
  • The first phase of the project will span 230 acres, with a total earmarked area of 1,000 acres.
  • The film city aims to boost the entertainment industry by creating film studios, a film institute, post-production facilities, and more.

 

3. NITI Aayog member Dr. V. K. Paul inaugurated National Consultation on Legal Environment Assessment

  • V. K. Paul, Member (Health) of NITI Aayog, inaugurated a two-day National Consultation on Legal Environment Assessment for the ‘One Health’ initiative.
  • Amid the pandemic, the focus on zoonotic diseases and the interconnectedness of human, animal, and plant ecosystems has intensified.
  • The consultation aims to address legal aspects related to health, environment, and biodiversity.
  • India’s proactive approach in ensuring ‘One Health’ goals underscores the need for holistic strategies to safeguard public health and ecological balance.

 

4. Rohit Sharma became 1st batsman to hit 200 Sixes in T20Is

  • India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, achieved a historic milestone during the T20 World Cup 2024.
  • In a Super Eight match against Australia, he became the first player to hit 200 sixes in men’s T20Is.
  • His blistering innings of 92 runs included eight massive sixes, one of which traveled an impressive 100 meters.

 

5. C-DAC and AICTE partner to boost high-performance computing education

  • The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have joined forces to create an ecosystem for human resource development in high-performance computing (HPC) and related areas.
  • Through 50 faculty development programs, around 2,500 faculty members from 1,000 engineering colleges across India will receive training.
  • The initiative aims to build HPC-related capabilities in the technical workforce, preparing them for industry demands. Courses will also be offered on the Ministry of Education’s Swayam platform.

 

6. South Korea, US, and Japan launch first trilateral multi-domain exercise

  • The U.S., Japan, and South Korea recently conducted their inaugural trilateral multi-domain exercise, named “Freedom Edge.”
  • This three-day exercise, held on the Korean Peninsula, aims to enhance trilateral interoperability and safeguard peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
  • Multiple ships and aircraft from each country participated, focusing on areas such as Ballistic Missile Defense, Air Defense, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Search and Rescue, Maritime Interdiction, and Defensive Cyber training.

 

7. Hunar Indian Folk and Tribal Art Exhibition opens in Dubai

  • The Hunar Indian Folk & Tribal Art Exhibition is currently on display at the Dubai Art Centre, one of the city’s oldest art institutions.
  • This captivating exhibition showcases a diverse range of Indian folk and tribal art forms, highlighting India’s rich cultural heritage.
  • Visitors can explore artistic styles from various regions, including Aipan art from Uttarakhand, Madhubani art from Bihar, and Warli art from Maharashtra.
  • The exhibition offers a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts in Dubai to immerse themselves in the soulful traditions of India.

 

8. Tata Sons to Build ₹650 Crore ‘Museum of Temples’ in Ayodhya

  • Tata Sons has received approval from the Uttar Pradesh cabinet to construct a ₹650 crore ‘Museum of Temples’ in Ayodhya.
  • Funded through Tata’s corporate social responsibility, this museum aims to showcase India’s temple history, featuring renowned architectural styles.
  • The project includes a potential light-and-sound show. The tourism department will provide land on a 90-year lease for a nominal fee of Re 1.
  • Additionally, the state cabinet allocated ₹100 crore for further development in Ayodhya and endorsed helicopter services in Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Kapilvastu.

 

9. US House of Representatives Passes Resolution Seeking Independent Probe Into Pakistan’s General Elections

  • The US House of Representatives on wednesday passed a bipartisan resolution in support of democracy and human rights in Pakistan’s general elections and called for a thorough and independent investigation.
  • The resolution titled Expressing support for democracy and human rights in Pakistan emphasised the importance of free and fair elections into any claims of irregularities in 2024 general elections.
  • The general elections in Pakistan, held on February 8 this year, were marred by the allegations of irregularities, with incidents of internet shutdown, rigging and violence being reported from different parts of the country.

 

10. Arundhati Roy honored with prestigious Pen Pinter Prize 2024

  • Indian author Arundhati Roy has been awarded the PEN Pinter Prize 2024 for her “unflinching and unswerving” writings.
  • The prize, established by the charity English PEN in memory of Nobel Laureate playwright Harold Pinter, celebrates literature and defends freedom of expression.
  • Roy, known for her fearless writing, expressed delight at receiving the award.
  • She will be honored at a ceremony hosted by the British Library on October 10, where she will also deliver an address.
