1. Air Chief Marshal inaugurated IAF’s first-ever emergency medical response system

  • On 21st May, 2024, the Emergency Medical Response System (EMRS) at Command Hospital Air Force Bangalore (CHAFB) was officially opened by Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, the Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force.
  • The EMRS is India’s first-ever round-the-clock telephone medical helpline for IAF personnel and their families.
  • The system’s objective is to promptly dispatch a team of paramedical and medical professionals to assist a caller experiencing an emergency wherever in the nation.

2. Govt appointed Shri Ramesh Babu V as Member in Central Electricity Regulatory Commission

  • On 21 May 2024, Shri Ramesh Babu V. assumed office and assumed confidentiality as a member of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission.
  • Shri R. K. Singh, the Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, gave him the oath of office and secrecy.
  • Thermal engineering M. Tech and mechanical engineering B. Tech degrees are held by Shri Ramesh Babu V.
  • Prior to retiring in May 2020, he held a number of NTPC posts before being appointed Director (Operations).

3. POWERGRID gets global recognition for Learning & Development, receives ATD Best Awards for the third time

  • The Ministry of Power’s Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been recognized with the esteemed ATD BEST Awards 2024 for its business-oriented talent development strategy.
  • One of the most prestigious international awards in the subject of learning and development (L&D) is the ATD BEST Awards, which were founded by the Association for Talent Development (ATD), USA.
  • It recognizes companies who use talent development as a tactical business tool and show how efficient employee development strategies may lead to enterprise-wide success.
  • According to the statement, a thorough examination and assessment process carried out by highly esteemed worldwide specialists is what determines the ranking.

4. 16th meeting of India-UK joint working group on Counter Terrorism held in New Delhi

  • The Joint Working Group on Counterterrorism between the United Kingdom and India convened for the sixteenth time in New Delhi.
  • The delegations were led by Chris Felton, the head of the United Kingdom government’s Counter Terrorism Network for Asia and Oceania, and KD Dewal, the joint secretary for counterterrorism in the ministry of external affairs.
  • They talked about the two nations’ continuing counterterrorism cooperation at the meeting.
  • Both countries emphasized the necessity of enhancing global collaboration in order to fight terrorism comprehensively and persistently.
  • The two parties discussed the threats posed by globally sanctioned terrorist organizations and individuals, as well as the threats posed by extremist and terrorist threats within their respective countries and areas.

5. India climbs to 39th position in World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index

  • In the World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index 2024, India rose to the 39th spot, with the United States at the top of the list.
  • India is the lowest-middle-income economy in South Asia and comes in first place overall. India was previously placed 54th in the released ranking for 2021.
  • India received a score of 4.25 out of a possible 7, with 1 being the lowest and 7 being the best.
  • India’s notable ascent in the rankings highlights its increasing competitiveness in the international tourist arena.
  • The biennial index examined 119 nations’ travel and tourism industries, rating them according to a variety of criteria and laws that support the growth of the travel industry.

6. Sanjay Murthy launched portal for nominations for National Awards to teachers (Higher Education) 2024

  • On 21st May 2024, Higher Education Sanjay Murthy launched the portal for nominations for National Awards to Teachers (Higher Education) 2024.
  • The awards will be conferred on teachers of technical and non-technical higher education institutions and Polytechnic Institutions.
  • The selected awardees will be felicitated on 5th September, Teachers’ Day to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
  • The award is open to all the faculty members of colleges, universities, higher educational institutions and polytechnics.

7. Rushabh Gandhi appointed as MD and CEO of IndiaFirst Life Insurance

  • Rushabh Gandhi, the company’s current deputy chief executive officer, has been promoted to the role of managing director and chief executive officer (MD and CEO), with approval from the board of IndiaFirst Life Insurance.
  • up 1 July 2024, or as soon as he has the required regulatory permissions, Gandhi will take up his new position.
  • The approval of the company’s shareholders, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), and other legislative clearances are prerequisites for his nomination.
  • Gandhi will take over as Managing Director and CEO from RM Vishakha, who is retiring on 30 June 2024.

8. SIDBI partners with Airbus Helicopters to Finance Helicopter purchases in India

  • Through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), SIDBI and Airbus Helicopters have ventured into the Indian helicopter financing market.
  • The purpose of this collaboration is to make it easier for prospective civil operators in the nation to finance Airbus helicopters.
  • As per the Memorandum of Understanding, Airbus Helicopters and SIDBI will work together to find and assess possible Indian helicopter operators looking to finance Airbus aircraft.
  • Airbus will assist SIDBI in evaluating these opportunities by utilizing its technological know-how and industry connections.
  • By this partnership, SIDBI is demonstrating its commitment to assisting the expansion of the rotary wing industry in India as well as its foray into the financing of helicopters.

9. IOCL exports premium fuel XP100 to Sri Lanka

  • Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) exported its first-ever shipment of premium fuel, XP100, with 100 octane to Sri Lanka, marking a noteworthy achievement.
  • The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai shipped the premium fuel, which was made for expensive cars.

10. Spain becomes 99th Member of International Solar Alliance

  • Officially, Spain joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA) as its 99th member.
  • During a meeting in New Delhi, José María Ridao Domínguez, the Ambassador of Spain to India, gave the Instrument of Ratification to Abhishek Singh, the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
  • Launched by France and India during COP21 in Paris, the ISA intends to use a large-scale solar energy deployment to carry out the Paris Climate Agreement.
  • It acts as a platform for member nations to work together to advance the global energy transition, improve energy access, guarantee energy security, and use more solar energy technology.
