1. Rutuja Bhosale-Fangran Tian clinch ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour in Tauste

  • Indian tennis star Rutuja Bhosale, in partnership with China’s Fangran Tian, secured a convincing victory in the doubles competition at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s 35,000 (ITF W35) tournament in Tauste, Spain.
  • They defeated the 3rd seeds, Alana Parnaby of Australia and Victoria Rodriguez of Mexico, in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, in the final.

 

2. India beat South Africa by 6 wickets in Bengaluru; clean sweep 3-match ODI Series

  • India Women beat South Africa by six wickets in the third and final One-Day International at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to register a 3-0 series clean sweep.
  • India secured a six-wicket victory in the third and final ODI at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
  • Smriti Mandhana played a crucial role, scoring a stylish 90 runs.
  • The Indian bowlers restricted South Africa to 215 runs, sealing the series triumph.

 

3. Famous Ambubachi Mela held at Kamakhya Temple

  • The Ambubachi Mela, held annually at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam, celebrates the menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya.
  • The temple closes for four days during this sacred time, followed by a grand reopening and purification ceremony.
  • According to mythology, the temple was built where Goddess Kamakhya’s vulva fell after Lord Vishnu divided her immolated body using his Sudarshan Chakra.
  • Devotees can visit the temple from 26 June onwards after ritualistic bathing, prayers, and offerings of prasad.

 

4. Govt appointed Atul Kumar Chaudhary as Secretary of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India

  • The Central Government has appointed Atul Kumar Chaudhary as the new Secretary of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
  • Chaudhary, a 1989-batch Indian Telecommunication Services (ITS) officer, previously served as a deputy director general at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
  • His two-year term involves steering telecom guidelines and policies, including initiatives to curb unsolicited communications and enhance service quality.
  • The position had been vacant since the retirement of V Raghunandan on 31 May.

 

4. World Hydrography Day 2024

  • World Hydrography Day is celebrated every year on 21 June.
  • This day aims to raise awareness about hydrography and its crucial role in understanding our seas and oceans.
  • The theme for World Hydrography Day 2024 is: “Hydrographic Information – Enhancing Safety, Efficiency and Sustainability in Marine Activities“.
  • World Hydrography Day commemorates the founding of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) in 1921.

 

6. Hemis Festival 2024

  • The Hemis Festival, also known as Hemis Tsechu, is a vibrant celebration of Tibetan Buddhism held annually at the Hemis Monastery in Ladakh, India.
  • This two-day festival commemorates the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava, a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism.
  • On June 16th and 17th, 2024, the monastery comes alive with colorful festivities.
  • The highlight is the mesmerizing masked dance (‘Chham Dance’), symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

 

7. Pathankot produced Litchi & Contributed 60 % of Punjab’s Litchi Production

  • Pathankot, a city in Punjab, is renowned for its significant contribution to the state’s litchi production. This region produces 60% of Punjab’s total litchi yield, making it a pivotal area for this fruit’s cultivation.
  • The favorable climate and fertile soil in Pathankot create optimal conditions for litchi growth, resulting in high-quality, juicy litchis that are popular both locally and in broader markets.
  • The litchi orchards in Pathankot not only boost the local economy but also provide employment opportunities for many residents.

 

8. Indian Army signed MoU to advance collaboration in ‘Next Generation Wireless Technologies for Indian Army’

  • The Indian Army has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance collaboration in developing next-generation wireless technologies.
  • This strategic initiative aims to enhance communication capabilities, ensuring more secure, reliable, and faster connectivity for military operations.
  • The collaboration will focus on cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), and advanced communication protocols, aiming to improve battlefield communication and situational awareness.

 

9. Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank gets National Award for APY implementation

  • Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB) has been honored with a national award by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) for significant enrollment under the Atal Pension Yojana (APY).
  • KVGB achieved remarkable results, enrolling 4,27,736 cumulative accounts under APY.
  • During the 2023-24 period, it surpassed its target by enrolling 86,350 accounts, well ahead of schedule.

 

10. ISRO successfully conducted 3rd and final ‘Pushpak’ reusable Launch Vehicle Landing Experiment

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved its third and final consecutive success in the Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) Landing Experiment (LEX).
  • The winged vehicle, ‘Pushpak’, executed a precise horizontal landing at the Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) in Chitradurga, Karnataka.
  • This achievement showcases advanced autonomous capabilities under challenging conditions.
  • With the objectives of RLV-LEX accomplished, ISRO now embarks into RLV-ORV, the orbital reusable vehicle.
