1. The Golden Thread awarded as best documentary in International category with Golden Conch Award

  • Indian Documentary ‘The Golden Thread’ is awarded as Best Documentary in international category with Golden Conch Award in Closing ceremony of 18th Mumbai International Film Festival.
  • Actress Poonam Dhillon presented this award to director Nishita Jain in ceremony in Mumbai.
  • He thanked all the film fraternity, Jury, Government of India and Government of Maharashtra for all support.
  • In the special category of ‘India in Amrit Kaal’, director Edmond Ranson was conferred with the Best Short Film award for ‘Life In Loom’.
  • Sreemoyi Singh grabbed the Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari Award for Best Debut Director for her film ‘And, Towards Happy Alleys’.
  • In the National Competition category, ‘6-A Akash Ganga’ won the Silver Conch Award best documentary, ‘Salt’ grabbed the Best Short Fiction Silver Conch, whereas ‘Nirjara’ of NID Ahmedabad was conferred with the Silver Conch for Best Animation.
  • In international competition category, ‘Zima’ from Poland won the Silver Conch for Best Animation and ‘Sour Milk’ from Estonia grabbed the Silver Conch for Best Short Fiction.

 

2. 10th International Day of Yoga celebrated across globe

  • The 10th International Day of Yoga is being celebrated across the globe on 21 June 2024.
  • The main function was held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the celebrations from Srinagar.
  • On the occasion, the Prime Minister addressed the gathering and participated in the Common Yoga Protocol session, highlighting Yoga’s significance in nurturing physical, mental, and spiritual growth.
  • The Prime Minister called Yoga is a great tool for self-improvement.

 

3. World Music Day

  • World Music Day is celebrated every year on 21 June
  • World Music Day, also known as Fête de la Musique, originated in France in 1982.
  • On 21 June, citizens and residents worldwide celebrate music by playing it outdoors in neighborhoods, public spaces, and parks.
  • From India to Germany, Italy to Japan, this universal celebration unites people through the language of melodies.

 

4. Canada declared Iran’s IRGC a terrorist entity

  • Canada has officially designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code.
  • This decision reflects the IRGC’s involvement in or facilitation of terrorist activities.
  • As a listed entity, the IRGC faces financial restrictions, and dealing with its property is a criminal offense.
  • Canada’s actions align with its strong stance against the Iranian regime, including previous listings of entities like Hizballah and Hamas.
  • Additionally, thousands of senior Iranian government officials, including top IRGC members, are now inadmissible to Canada due to their engagement in terrorism and human rights violations.

 

5. India ranks 129th on Global Gender Gap Index

  • India has slipped to 129th place in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index 2024, while Iceland retains the top spot.
  • Among South Asian countries, India ranks fifth, trailing behind Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan.
  • Despite progress in economic participation and educational enrollment, India faces challenges in political empowerment and representation of women.
  • Globally, the gender gap is projected to take 134 years to close at the current rate.

 

6. IIIT-Delhi won the prize for Antimicrobial Resistance Project

  • The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) has been awarded the joint second prize in the Trinity Challenge’s second competition for its project aimed at combating the threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
  • The project, titled “AMRSense: Empowering Communities with a Proactive One Health Ecosystem,” addresses challenges in engaging, motivating, and training community health workers (CHWs) in AMR surveillance and management.
  • By integrating data ecosystems, predictive analytics, and an AMRaura Scorecard, AMRSense aims to enhance evidence-based management and guide targeted interventions.
  • Each joint second prize winner will receive £6,00,000 in funding over the next three years.

 

7. IPBES awarded 2024 Blue Planet Prize

  • The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has been honored with the 2024 Blue Planet Prize by the Asahi Glass Foundation.
  • This prestigious award recognizes IPBES as the global authority on biodiversity, ecosystem services, and nature’s contributions to people.
  • Their vital work informs environmental policies and actions worldwide. As a laureate, IPBES shares the prize with Robert Costanza, emphasizing their significant contributions to biodiversity conservation and ecological economics.
  • The award includes a grant of US$500,000, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable development and global biodiversity goals.

 

8. APIX and RBI join forces for HaRBInger 2024 Hackathon

  • APIX, the global collaborative innovation platform for financial institutions and fintechs, has partnered with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to host the prestigious HaRBInger 2024 hackathon.
  • This landmark collaboration aims to bring together bright minds from around the world to develop cutting-edge solutions enhancing financial ecosystem security and inclusivity.
  • Participants will tackle critical problem statements related to real-time fraud detection, transaction anonymity, identifying mule accounts, and empowering the visually impaired in financial transactions.
  • Exciting prizes, including INR 40,00,000 (~USD 48,000) for winners in each category, await innovators on this global stage.

 

9. Sudhakararao Papa appointed director (Enterprise) at BSNL

  • Sudhakararao Papa has been appointed as the Director (Enterprise) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), following a rigorous selection process by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on 15 June 2024.
  • His role includes overseeing enterprise operations, focusing on corporate and SME business development, product strategy, and customer service to bolster BSNL’s telecommunications leadership.

 

10. Karnataka Governor inaugurated National Yoga Olympiad 2024 in Mysuru

  • Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot inaugurated the ninth National Yoga Olympiad (NYO) 2024 in Mysuru.
  • This event celebrates yoga’s ancient cultural significance and global recognition.
  • Over 400 students and 100 teachers are participating in the three-day NYO, held at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE).
  • The theme for NYO 2024 is “Yoga for Self and Society”.
  • It’s an inclusive event where students are selected at the district level and progress to the state and national levels.
