1. Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region launched Swachhata Pakhwada

With the introduction of Swachhata Pakhwada, the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has made a substantial contribution to the promotion of environmental sustainability and cleanliness.
The celebration got underway at Vigyan Bhawan (Annexe), New Delhi, and it will continue their till 31 May 2024.
By taking the Swachhata Pledge, Team MDoNER demonstrated their continued dedication to promoting cleanliness initiatives and the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Various activities will be carried out as part of Swachhata Pakhwada, including as trash management, plantation campaigns, street dramas (Nukkad Natak), and community awareness programs on eco-friendly initiatives.

2. 3rd session of India-Zimbabwe joint trade committee held in New Delhi

On May 13 and 14, 2024, in New Delhi, the India-Zimbabwe Joint Trade Committee (JTC) convened its third session.
The calls for more collaboration, resolution of outstanding issues, promotion of trade and investment, and increased interpersonal interactions were met with enthusiasm.
After reviewing the bilateral commerce, both parties acknowledged the enormous potential that exists between their two nations. It was decided by both parties to work together to increase bilateral trade.
The signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for regulatory collaboration in the areas of traditional medicine, quick payments systems, rough diamonds, telemedicine, and digital transformation solutions was agreed upon by both parties.

3. DoT unveiled Stage-I Participants for “Sangam Initiative: A Leap Towards AI-Driven Infrastructure Transformation”

Announcing the chosen participants for Stage 1 of the groundbreaking “Sangam: Digital Twin with AI-Driven Insights Initiative,” the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is proud.
The Sangam initiative, which was introduced on 15 February 2024, intends to transform infrastructure planning and design by using digital twin technology to produce accurate, dynamic representations of real-world surroundings.
Through the integration of sensing, imaging, computational technologies, and telecommunications, the program seeks to construct comprehensive digital duplicates of real assets in order to handle complicated challenges.

4. Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare organises ‘Samadhan Campaign’ at Bengdubi, Darjeeling

The “Samadhan Campaign,” an outreach initiative by the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, was held in the Bengdubi Army Camp in Darjeeling, West Bengal.
The Department launched the “Samadhan Campaign” as a way to proactively engage with ex-servicemen and their families and resolve their issues over the department’s different welfare systems, in an effort to recognize the sacrifices they made.
Many veterans from Darjeeling and the surrounding West Bengal and Bihar areas attended the Samadhan Campaign, when their complaints about healthcare and the SPARSH pension, among other things, were addressed.

5. Bharat Pavilion at the 77th Cannes film festival inaugurated

The Bharat Pavilion debuted at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in France on 15 May 2024.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Government of India, hosts the esteemed Cannes Film Festival every year.
FICCI, an industry partner, and the National Film Development Corporation, the main agency, lead Bharat’s participation.
With the pavilion, India is demonstrating its unwavering dedication to promoting international cooperation within the world film community and exhibiting its rich cinematic legacy.
Prominent dignitaries, well-known directors, and business titans gathered to commemorate the spirit of Indian cinema at the historic launch.

6. India offers to install Green Hydrogen production facility as per global demand

Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, the Secretary for New and Renewable Energy, has emphasized the nation’s commitment to taking the lead in the global hydrogen economy.
He gave an assurance to the delegates at the World Hydrogen Summit 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, that India could supply the need for green hydrogen at any scale of production.
The Secretary reaffirmed India’s leadership in the world for affordable renewable energy, highlighting the low cost of renewable energy in the country.
According to Mr. Bhalla, the nation’s installed capacity for power generated by non-fossil fuels is expected to rise by 50% by 2030 in keeping with the nation’s aim to shift to sustainable energy sources.

7. Centre issued first set of Citizenship Certificates Under CAA

On 15 May 2024, the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules 2024 were announced, and the first batch of citizenship certificates were then issued.
In New Delhi, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla granted citizenship certificates to fourteen candidates.
Several more candidates are reportedly receiving digitally signed certificates via email, according to the Home Ministry.
As per the regulations, individuals from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who are members of the Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, and Christian communities who have entered India before 31 December 2014, were eligible to apply.

8. 5th meeting of India-UAE joint committee on consular affairs held in New Delhi

On 14 May 2024, in New Delhi, the India-UAE Joint Committee on Consular Affairs convened for the fifth time.
The two parties engaged in extensive talks about ways to improve coordination and cooperation on consular matters pertaining to, among other things, labor, visas, immigration, citizenship, and extradition.
The UAE side provided a thorough briefing on the various measures the government has taken to guarantee the wellbeing of Indian employees working there.
The two parties also talked about other topics of shared interest, such as facilitating visas to encourage more in-person interactions and hastening the conclusion of accords pertaining to migration and mobility.

9. Madhavi Raje, mother of Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, dies at AIIMS Delhi

Madhavi Raje Scindia, the mother of Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, died on 15 May 2024 at AIIMS Delhi.
Madhavi Raje Scindia had been undergoing treatment at the AIIMS for the last three months and suffered from pneumonia along with sepsis.
As the Rajmata (Queen Mother) of the Gwalior royal dynasty, Madhavi Raje Scindia was herself a member of a royal family.
Madhavrao Scindia was a well-known politician who held positions as a Union minister and member of parliament. Madhavi Raje Scindia was his wife.
Madhavi Raje, who is well-known for her charitable activities, chaired 24 trusts covering a range of industries, including healthcare and education. The board of governors of Scindias Kanya Vidyalaya, an organization dedicated to educating girls, was led by Madhavi Raje.

10. Author Ruskin Bond received Sahitya Akademi Fellowship

Eminent English author Ruskin Bond was awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Fellowship at his Mussoorie home on 11 May 2024.
Bond was named a recipient of Akademi’s highest honour in September 2021. However, due to his ill health, he could not be given the honour in person.
His notable works include “Vagrants in the Valley”, “Once Upon a Monsoon Time”, “Angry River”, “Strangers in the Night”, “All Roads Lead to Ganga”, “Tales of Fosterganj”, “Leopard on the Mountain” and “Too Much Trouble”.
