1. Modi 3.0 government announced the portfolios
- The Modi 3.0 government announced the portfolios of its Cabinet ministers on 10 June 2024.
- The swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Council of Ministers was held in the grand forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 9 June 2024.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has kept several key ministries, including the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the Department of Atomic Energy, and the Department of Space.

2. Prem Singh Tamang sworn in as Sikkim Chief Minister
- Prem Singh Tamang, the leader of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Sikkim for the second consecutive term.
- The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at a function held in Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.
- Tamang’s party, SKM, returned to power in Sikkim by a landslide victory, winning 31 out of 32 seats in the Assembly elections. The opposition party, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), could only win one seat.
3. Government assist in construction of 3 crore rural and urban houses under PMAY
- The Union Cabinet, led by PM Narendra Modi, has approved assistance for constructing three crore houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to meet the housing needs of additional rural and urban families.
- This decision underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of our nation and ensuring that every citizen leads a better quality of life.
- The government has been implementing the PMAY since 2015-16 to provide assistance to eligible rural and urban households for the construction of houses with basic amenities.
4. Carlos Alcaraz won the Men’s Singles title at the French Open
- Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, a 21-year-old Spaniard, won the Men’s Singles title at the French Open, Roland Garros, in Paris.
- He defeated Alexander Zverev in a thrilling five-set final on 9 June 2024, with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
- This victory marks Alcaraz’s third Grand Slam title, adding to his previous wins at Wimbledon in 2023 and the US Open in 2022.
- Alcaraz is now the youngest male tennis player to claim major titles on all three surfaces.
5. Mumbai Cricket Association President Amol Kale passes away
- Amol Kale, the President of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), passed away at the age of 47 due to a cardiac arrest in New York, USA.
- He was attending the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
- Kale was known for his significant contributions to cricket, including doubling the match fees for Mumbai players.
- He was also a close aide of Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
6. World Accreditation Day
- World Accreditation Day (WAD) 2024, marked on 9 June, is a global initiative established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) to promote the value of accreditation.
- The theme for 2024 is “Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future”.
- This theme examines the impact of accreditation as digitalization, new technologies, and sustainability concerns continue to change our world.
7. Indian tripartite delegation at the 112th session of International Labour Conference (ILC)
- The Indian tripartite delegation, led by Secretary (Labour & Employment), Ms. Sumita Dawra, participated in the 112th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland.
- Discussions were held on global skills gap mapping, international migration of workers, future of work, and more.
- The delegation also participated in deliberations on key issues such as social justice, care economy, biological hazards, and fundamental principles and rights at work.
8. Max Verstappen dominates Canadian Grand Prix for 3rd consecutive year
- Max Verstappen, the Red Bull Racing star, dominated the Canadian Grand Prix for the third consecutive year. The race took place at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
- Despite challenging weather conditions, Verstappen expertly managed the race, winning with a time of 1:45:47.927 in 70 laps.
- This victory marks his 60th career win and his sixth win in the nine races of the 2024 season.
- Lando Norris finished second, while George Russell secured the third position.
