In a country where traffic congestion on busy roads can delay critical medical aid, Blinkit has introduced a groundbreaking solution—a 10-minute ambulance service in select areas of Gurgaon. For individuals facing severe health emergencies or accidents, even a few seconds can make a difference, and this initiative aims to bridge that gap.
Blinkit launched the service on January 03, 2025 is currently in the testing phase with five ambulances deployed in Gurgaon.
- Each vehicle is staffed by a paramedic, a duty assistant, and a trained driver, and is equipped with basic medical equipment to provide immediate assistance.
- Blinkit’s founder and CEO, Albinder Dhindsa, stated, “Profit is not a goal here. We will operate this service at an affordable cost for customers and invest in solving this critical problem for the long term.”
Plans for Expansion
Blinkit intends to scale up the service and expand it to all major cities across India within the next two years. While details about partnerships with hospitals or the operational model are yet to be clarified, the move has already sparked significant interest and discussions.
Social Media Reactions
The announcement has garnered mixed reactions on social media. Many users applauded the initiative, highlighting the need for faster emergency services in India. However, the internet was not without its share of humor.
One user remarked, “Blinkit launches ambulance service in 10 minutes—a much-needed step. The average ambulance time in India is 25-30 minutes.
Blinkit, please tie up with the Income Tax department for 10-minute income tax refunds too!”
Government Oversight
Union Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the initiative, emphasizing that Blinkit must ensure compliance with all legal requirements. “As regards Blinkit with ambulance service or medicines being delivered, my only submission would be that they have to make sure they meet the law of the land, and all legal requirements should be properly taken care of. No laws of the land should be broken,” he said, as quoted by PTI.
Blinkit’s 10-minute ambulance service is an encouraging step towards addressing the critical need for prompt medical assistance in India, and its potential expansion could redefine emergency care accessibility across the country.
