Rishabh Pant Smashes Fastest Test Fifty in Australia in Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series
Rishabh Pant created history at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 04th January, 2025 by recording the fastest Test half-century on Australian soil by a visiting batter during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
After struggling with the bat earlier in the series, Pant delivered a blistering performance on day two of the series finale. He reached his fifty in just 29 balls, sealing the milestone with a six off Mitchell Starc. This incredible feat surpassed the previous record of 33 balls jointly held by England’s John Brown (Melbourne, 1895) and West Indies’ Roy Fredericks (Perth, 1975).

Pant’s innings also marked the second-fastest Test half-century by an Indian batter, just behind his own record of a 28-ball fifty against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru in 2022.
The explosive knock ended when Australia’s captain Pat Cummins found an edge off Pant’s bat, leading to a catch by Alex Carey.
- Pant scored 61 runs off 33 balls, including six fours and four sixes.
He also contributed to a valuable 46-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, helping India surpass the 100-run mark after a shaky start.
- Earlier, the Indian bowlers bundled out Australia for 181 but the top order struggled to capitalise on the early advantage.
